Symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease that you need to know…

🧠 What are the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease — and how do they change over time?

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia. It gradually damages the brain, affecting memory, thinking, and behaviour. But it doesn’t look the same in everyone — and recognising the signs early can make a real difference in getting the right help and support.

I’m Dr O’Donovan, a medical doctor working in dementia care services here in the UK. I completed a fellowship in dementia research at Harvard, and I’ve also cared for both of my grandmothers who had Alzheimer’s disease — so I understand both the clinical and the personal challenges.

In this video, I’ll take you through:

The early signs of Alzheimer’s and why short-term memory is often affected first
How symptoms change in the middle and later stages
The emotional and behavioural impact for the person and their family
When to seek medical advice and why sudden changes matter

You’ll learn about:
✔ Memory loss, confusion, and language difficulties
✔ Changes in mood and behaviour — including anxiety, agitation, and suspicion
✔ Sundowning and how it affects late afternoons and evenings
✔ How Alzheimer’s can impact vision, movement, and daily activities over time
These are clear, evidence-based explanations drawn from my clinical work, research, and lived family experience.

👇 Let me know in the comments:
Have you noticed any of these symptoms in someone you know? What was the first sign you spotted? I’ll reply personally where I can.
