Statins and risk of Alzheimer’s 🧠 – A Double-Edged Weapon

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurologic disorder that causes the brain to shrink (atrophy) and brain cells to die. Statins have been linked with reduced risk of all-cause dementia and even Alzheimer’s disease as well.

STATINS and risk of Alzheimer’s is the title of our conversation in the latest episode of our Brain Health Revolution podcast. There’s no doubt that diet and lifestyle are crucial long-term solutions for keeping LDL cholesterol low, however in certain cases of resistant or familial hypercholesterolemia, or in situations when someone is having a stroke or other cardiovascular diseases, waiting for cholesterol to go down with dietary changes is dangerous.

There is a tsunami of diseases of the brain such as Alzheimer’s, stroke and Parkinson’s disease permeating our culture. In our own communities and families, we all have known at least one person suffering from these illnesses and in many cases seen the fallout first-hand. There is no treatment for these diseases, and the emotional, financial and social burden is immense. These diseases are thieves, stealing time, money and ravaging the minds of our loved ones. Lifestyle change is the only answer.
