Recommended Reading: Resilient and Redeemed by Chris Morris

Hot Off the Press

My writing friend and fellow mental health warrior Chris Morris has recently published a book. Resilient and Redeemed: Lessons about Suicidality and Depression from the Psych Ward is now out. I am halfway through this relatable read and am enjoying the honest look at mental illness within the context of the church.

Chris has a forward approach in the book: he goes into past life experiences that illustrate a problem, question, or nuance of the intersection of his faith and mental illness. After the vignette, he goes into sections on What I Learned, Why It Matters, How It Applies, and What God Thinks. These sections are not long but they go deep into addressing these topics that are often misconstrued in our churches and in Christian circles.

Overall, I appreciate Chris’ courage to tell his story in light of the good and bad that comes with these matters. I applaud Chris for then holding the reader’s hand to confront the misconception and flawed beliefs. I’m proud of his approach to making it to-the-point and direct with the applications and Bible verses. These all support his book’s message that we can be saved and still be suicidal, depressed, and struggle with suffering in our minds.
