October 10, 2026, is World Mental Health Day, and this year’s theme is:“Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change”
World Mental Health Day was first observed on October 10, 1992, as an initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH).
Its original purpose was to promote mental-health advocacy and educate the public about mental-health issues. This year’s theme puts the voices of people with lived experience at the center. It emphasizes that people who have experienced mental-health challenges should not simply be asked to tell their stories—they should have a meaningful role in shaping mental-health policies, services and decisions.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is also highlighting the importance of moving toward community-based, person-centered mental-health care and ensuring that people with lived experience have a real voice in that process.
