WHY #LACKOFSLEEP is linked to #dementia
The Vital Connection Between Sleep and Dementia Prevention

Did you know that Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep is the strongest predictor of developing Lewy Body Dementia?
LBD is a progressive disease, meaning it worsens over time, and it is often misdiagnosed because its symptoms can be similar to other neurological disorders, including Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.
There is currently no cure for LBD, and treatments are aimed at managing symptoms. Medications that are commonly used to treat Parkinson’s disease can help with movement problems. Antipsychotic medications, which can worsen LBD symptoms, should be avoided.

REM sleep is crucial for brain health, aiding memory, cognition, emotional mindset, and creativity. REM sleep disorder is often associated with neurological conditions like Parkinson’s or multiple system atrophy.
In order to maintain healthy brain function and potentially prevent LBD, it is important to adopt a routine sleep schedule, getting more sunlight, exercising regularly, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and avoiding caffeine intake at night.
