We have all heard stories about family gatherings around the holidays where family members experience, observe or hear their loved one has declined in their ability to live independently. This might show up as a loss of memory or the ability to do things they have always done. It may be regarding their mobility, or ability to drive. They might find a stack of unpaid bills on the table, or the house is no longer maintained as it used to be. They might find their loved one has difficulty using equipment like a dishwasher, stove/oven, garbage disposal, refrigerator, washer or dryer, or even the TV or phone appropriately. Many times these surprising realities, are disturbing and scary to family members.

Realizing a loved one abilities are declining can be an emotional journey. This revelation could also be recognizing the stress caring for a loved one can cause a primary care partner. Where do families start? How do they approach this topic? How do you protect and provide dignity to the person in decline and their care partner?

Join us today, as John Sweeney a senior himself, who cared for his wife Virginia diagnosed with dementia shares how his family negotiated this rough terrain.

Hosts Lance A. Slatton and Lori La Bey share their insights on this very important topic. Both Lance and Lori have cared for others personally and professionally. Grab your pen and paper to jot notes!
