I always try to be authentic and honest about my feelings. At my age, especially, I don’t feel a need to hide them or be embarrassed by them. I’m a firm believer in feeling emotions to move through them.
Today is the anniversary of my Mother’s passing twelve years ago. Each year, the loss feels fresh and new, and yet different. I never know how deeply the grief and loss will hit me or what might trigger it, but I am always hopeful that my gratitude for having my mom be my Mother will offset the pain and loss. Today, my emotions were one big roller coaster of highs and lows. I’m sure all the astrological alignments added to my emotional exhaustion.
People always ask me what brought me into the dementia arena, and it was my mom. She gets the credit for Alzheimer’s Speaks and Dementia Map. I was totally happy being a successful real estate agent for 25 years. I thought I would share with you a bit about why I made the transition to shift our dementia care from crisis to comfort and how dementia showed up in our family.
