Some studies have found a correlation between drinking more than one diet drink a day and a higher risk of dementia or stroke, but it’s important to remember that correlation does not mean causation. This means that while the two things may appear linked, one doesn’t necessarily cause the other.
People who drink a lot of diet sodas, for example, might also have other lifestyle or health factors that contribute to cognitive decline. At this point, there’s no clear evidence that artificial sweeteners or diet drinks directly cause dementia, but it’s still a good reminder that moderation and balance are key when it comes to what we consume.
