Danny Glover Admits To Alzheimer’s Disease! 🧠 The Brain Changes No One Talks About

Danny Glover just told the world he’s been living with Alzheimer’s disease for four years, and the question I keep getting from patients is one I want to answer right now: what’s the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia? Here’s the short version. Dementia is the umbrella. Alzheimer’s disease is what lives under it, and it accounts for 60 to 80% of all dementia cases. With Alzheimer’s, abnormal proteins called amyloid plaques build up in the brain, kill brain cells, and cause the brain to actually shrink over time. That’s why someone with Alzheimer’s might not remember what they had for breakfast, but can describe their first day of high school in vivid detail. Short-term memory goes first. There’s no cure yet, but medications can slow the progression. Danny Glover is 79, still talking, still sharing, and his openness might be the thing that gets someone you love to their doctor sooner.
