I recently had the chance to do something incredible. I walked the runway wearing Schizophrenic.NYC merch at the first ever Passion Fashion runway event hosted by Fountain House and Positive Exposure.
The show, called Passion Fashion: (Fountain) House of Re/Invention, celebrated creativity, fashion, and mental health advocacy. It brought together artists, members, and supporters connected to Fountain House. Many participants live with mental health conditions, including schizophrenia.
The event sold out. The energy in the room was amazing.
Fashion and Mental Health Advocacy
Every person who walked the runway wore a one-of-a-kind outfit created or customized by artists from Fountain House Gallery & Studio. The designs included thrifted clothing, hand-painted jackets, handmade jewelry, and garments made from reclaimed materials.
These were not just outfits. They were personal expressions of identity, recovery, and creativity.
Fashion can be a powerful way to tell a story. That was clear the moment people stepped onto the runway.

Why Walking the Runway Meant So Much to Me
As the founder of Schizophrenic.NYC, I spend a lot of time talking about schizophrenia awareness and breaking stigma. Walking in this event felt like the perfect combination of advocacy and creativity.
People with serious mental illness are often left out of conversations about fashion, art, and culture. This event showed the opposite. It showed that people living with mental illness are artists, designers, creators, and leaders.

Challenging Schizophrenia Stigma Through Fashion
Schizophrenic.NYC started with a goal to make it ok to say that you have schizophrenia. I wanted to turn something that people often misunderstand into something empowering.
That same idea was present throughout the entire runway show. Each look represented reinvention and self-expression.
Events like this help change how people think about mental illness. Instead of stereotypes, people see creativity and individuality.

The Power of Community in Mental Health Recovery
Organizations like Fountain House play a huge role in supporting people living with mental illness. Their programs create opportunities for artists to share their work, build careers, and connect with community.
Recovery does not happen in isolation. Community support, creativity, and opportunity make a real difference.
Walking the runway alongside this community was something I will never forget.
