Video Transcription: Hello everyone,
You probably have heard about Alzheimer’s disease, right?
Today, we will be getting into the important facts about Alzheimer’s.
It is a neurological disorder in which brain cells die rapidly causing cognitive decline and memory loss.
There are an estimated 5.3 million Americans with Alzheimer’s disease and almost two thirds of them are women.
The most common early symptom of Alzheimer’s is difficulty in learning new information. This is because the disease alters the area of the brain that affects learning. As the disease becomes more advanced, the symptoms get worse which can include disorientation and mood/behavior changes.
The progression of Alzheimer’s is broken down into three main stages:
Preclinical (there are still no signs or symptoms), mild cognitive impairment and dementia. Dementia is the most problematic stage affecting not just the patient but the people around him/her as well.
There are some risk factors that are unavoidable like age, family history and sex (women are more likely than men to develop Alzheimer’s). Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Patients with Alzheimer’s live an average of eight years once they develop noticeable symptoms but survival can range from four to twenty years, depending on age, health condition and other factors.
There is still no cure for Alzheimer’s but treatments for reducing its symptoms are available.
So you need to take good care of your health and your family’s as well. It is very important to be well-informed about common medical conditions especially their symptoms. You can do this and stay updated through ConsumerHealthDigest.com
