Last year, the Alzheimer’s Association® released revised diagnostic criteria that use core biomarkers to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease, regardless of if symptoms such as cognitive impairment have begun. Based on decades of scientific and operational work in the AD and dementia space, Cogstate supports this position.
“Being able to define and diagnose Alzheimer’s disease on the basis of biomarkers…will help advance clinical trials, drug development, and ultimately a treatment to prevent or at least delay the onset of symptoms,” states Cogstate Chief Medical Officer, Kaycee Sink, MD, MAS. “We need to let go of the stigma of Alzheimer’s disease and start seeing it as the medical disease that it is.”
