A weekly blog at “Let’s talk about dementia”

Never in the history of mankind did not talking about something scary make it disappear.

Our weekly blog was launched in June 2014, hosted and supported by Alzheimer Scotland and led by Elaine Hunter, national allied health professional consultant at Alzheimer Scotland.

Since April 2014, we have posted 600 blogs. In 2024 we shared 55 blogs, reaching a truly international audience, people reading the blogs in the UK, USA, Ireland, France, Australia, India, Canada, Finland, Austria and many more.

We have a host of blog writers including our allied health professionals (AHPs) where we did a series of “in conversation with”, AHP students, people with lived experience, AHP colleagues in Wales, staff at Alzheimer Scotland and nurse consultants.

This year we integrated the blog content over the last three years into our national AHP dementia framework, Connecting People, Connecting Support: looking back, looking ahead. An update report on transforming the allied health professions’ contribution to supporting people living with dementia, their families and carers in Scotland, that you can view here. In part 2 of the policy report, eight blogs by authors from around Scotland are shared with an additional 24 links to other blogs that share the range and reach of Connecting People, Connecting Support in local practice. They tell a story of transformation and impact that emerged between April 2020 and December 2023. In doing so, they offer an insight into the real and critical value of AHP interventions in improving people’s experiences of care and support.

For our blog posts, we also worked in partnership with our AHP colleagues across Scotland to take a national approach to supporting colleagues and friends to share their work on social media developing a guide on blogging that you can find here.

We aim to post a new blog every Thursday and you can enter your email address to follow the blog and receive notifications of new posts by email at  https://letstalkaboutdementia.wordpress.com/.

All that is left for me to say, in our last blog of 2024, is thank you to all our blog contributors and all our blog readers. Keep following and supporting us in 2025 so we can keep talking about dementia
