A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can lower Alzheimer’s risk. Specifically, diets like the Mediterranean and DASH diets (rich in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and anti-inflammatory nutrients) are linked to a lower risk of cognitive decline. Regular hydration and reducing intake of processed foods, sugars, and saturated fats may also help. Consistent physical activity, especially aerobic exercises like walking, swimming, and cycling, improves blood flow and supports brain health. Studies suggest that exercising at least 150 minutes per week may reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Exercise also promotes cardiovascular health, which is closely linked to brain function. Medications such as cholinesterase inhibitors (e.g., Donepezil, Rivastigmine) and memantine are currently used to manage symptoms. They don’t cure Alzheimer’s but can help slow cognitive decline in the early to moderate stages.
