Alzheimer’s disease and dementia after age 60 are among the main health threats to older adults. Early-stage Alzheimer’s symptoms often go unnoticed: a person may appear healthy until the disease has been damaging the brain for years. Dementia prevention is especially important after age 50, when there’s still time to intervene. In this video, a physician with 30 years of experience examines the signs of dementia in the elderly, explains the role of cognitive reserve and the glymphatic system of the brain, and discusses the link between sleep deprivation and Alzheimer’s disease.
